Does Shopify integrate with Xero? Yes, through an app that Xero publishes

Yes. Shopify connects to Xero through the Shopify integration by Xero, an app that Xero builds and lists in both the Xero App Store and the Shopify App Store. Shopify does not post to Xero by itself. You install an app, either Xero's own or a third-party connector such as Link My Books, A2X, Taxomate or Synder.

On the Shopify App Store the Xero app is marked free to install, with a 4.4 rating from 55 reviews and a launch date of March 24, 2026, as read on 3 October 2026. Xero's listing says support for setup is provided through a partner, Amaka.

What the Xero-built Shopify integration syncs

• Two sync modes: a daily summary of sales and payments, or a separate transaction for each sale with customer and line-item detail.
• Payout matching: payouts from Shopify Payments and other gateways are matched to the bank feed, with fees, refunds and taxes handled.
• Shopify POS: in-store sales sync alongside the online store.
• Tax mapping: Shopify taxes map to Xero tax rates or liability accounts.
• History: up to 90 days of past data.
• Price: the Xero App Store listing says it is free on all Xero plans.

One wrinkle: Xero's US web page calls the integration free and also mentions starting a 30-day trial of it. The App Store listing is the clearer statement. A mistake to avoid on the Xero Early plan: Early allows 20 invoices a month, and Xero's pricing page says transactions started by app partners may count toward that limit, so per-sale syncing can exhaust it. The daily summary mode keeps the ledger lighter.

Link My Books also has lower tiers for very small stores, from $20 a month for up to 15 orders. How to choose the best Shopify Xero integration for your store

• You use Shopify Payments, sell in one currency and want no extra cost: start with the Xero-built integration in daily summary mode.
• You take PayPal, Klarna or other gateways and deposits are hard to match: a payout connector. Link My Books documents support for every Shopify gateway with a clearing account for each. Taxomate says external gateways should be tested separately.

Where Link My Books fits, and how to connect it

Link My Books fits a Shopify store that wants payout-level entries and has more than one gateway or more than one sales channel. It does not fit a store that needs individual orders in Xero. Prerequisites are a Xero plan other than Cashbook and a Link My Books plan sized to your orders. Its documented steps are:

1. Start the 14-day trial by signing in with your Xero account. The vendor says no card is needed.
2. Connect your Shopify store. The vendor says it needs read-only access.
3. Confirm the suggested accounts and tax rates in the setup wizard.
4. Turn on auto-post and set the date from which it should post to Xero.

Worked example: a store with 350 orders a month and Shopify Payments plus PayPal would be on Starter 500 Lite at $35 a month. It would get one invoice per Shopify Payments payout and one PayPal summary per month, and it would still need to record PayPal's fees from PayPal's own monthly statement.
